How a Simple Pamphlet Saved a Life

It was another busy June day at the Cherry Hill Women’s Center. Our faithful Helper, Joe, was giving out our Helpers pamphlets to every car that pulled into the driveway.

One specific car, with one specific woman…is who we want to tell you about.

This morning, God had his eye on Lanasha. Lanasha, 28 years old, was pregnant with her 2nd child. Like most of the woman we meet, she was scared and unsure. When we had a moment to talk to her, she told us she did not know how she could provide for another, and was coming to the clinic to have a late term abortion THAT DAY.

This type of abortion is a two day procedure. The baby’s heart is injected with Digoxin which “stops the heart by midnight”. The following day a mother returns to deliver a dead baby. We know this is not only a terrible ending to a beautiful life, but we also know the heartache, sorrow and consequence this brings to a mother. Lanasha, took a moment to read our pamphlet that morning which shows the size of the child in her womb.

She was shocked.

Prior to coming to the clinic she did not fully understand the measure of life within her child and she was unclear on how exactly her child’s life would end. She left that day with our pamphlet in hand and we continued to pray for her. Not 24-hours later we were overjoyed when Lanasha picked up the phone and called us. She said she’d been crying all night, feeling overwhelmed and confused.

“We told her there is hope and that we can help,” said Helper Teri. “We knew that having the courage to choose life would not only be a blessing to her, but to her 7 year old son, Jamir, and everyone else around her.” Helpers Joe and Teri suggested that eventually she would help others and she said “I already did!” She told us how she’d given our pamphlet to her 23 year old sister, Ontaiya. That night when they sat there together talking over our pamphlet, they both decided to take our offer of help and keep their babies.

A week later The Helpers delivered baby items to the sisters, including a white crib which Lanasha excitedly said she had been dreaming about for a baby girl. We also brought car seats, bouncy seats and baby clothes. While The Helpers were there, they met family members who were overjoyed with this decision for life and neighbors who happily helped unload the items and bring them up to the third floor.

In addition to the truckload delivered that day, The Helpers paid a $400 electric bill for Lanasha and helped Ontaiya continue needed counseling.

With great joy Hamon’ii was born in August to Lanasha and her cousin, Jazaiah, was born in October to Ontaiya. The Helpers stay in constant touch with the sisters who are extremely happy they chose to trust God and give birth to these beautiful babies who will grow up together. Together we are the Church who continues to evangelize by touching hearts in order to rebuild family!

Thank you friends for your continued support…again we cannot do this without your financial contributions, your prayers and your presence outside the clinic.
