Samantha’s Change of Heart
This story starts one cool day when a young girl with a backpack on walked towards the Cherry Hill Women’s Center. The young woman’s name was Samantha. Samantha was early for her appointment that day, so she decided to walk outside to waste time and keep her mind off what she was about to do. Thankfully, Helper Teri was there that day. She approached the young girl and told her she cared about her, even though she didn’t know her, and that she didn’t need to be there. Teri continued to tell her she was there to help…and that there were other options. She smiled and just walked by. Teri kept praying. As she came back again near Teri, she said again, ‘please let me help you. What is the reason that you come here?’ Samantha began to explain that she really did not want to be there, but she felt she had no choice. She continued to tell Teri that she lived with her boyfriend and it was his family who wanted her to get an abortion. The family told Samantha if she kept the baby, she would no longer be welcomed there.
Despite Samantha’s explanation Teri continued to tell her that she was loved, her baby was loved and that it was not right for her to feel alone in loving her baby. Teri began to lay out the great work that The Helpers do, and told her that we could help her move forward to be the mother she wanted to be. The two agreed to leave the clinic and went to lunch to talk things over.
That day she never went back to the abortion clinic. Instead she went home and told her boyfriend she wanted to keep the baby. That was her decision and she was not changing her mind. The next day Teri picked her up and took her for a doctor’s appointment where she heard the heartbeat for the first time! What a beautiful sound.
We are happy to say that Samantha finished her CNA license a few weeks later and dad came on board to support Samantha through the pregnancy.
On July 27th Teri was able to witness the birth of Xavier with his dad. What a gift from the Lord! Thank you to The Helpers who were able to offer the family many baby items and a bassinet to ensure a healthy fresh start. And as always, Thank you for your prayers. They make all the difference.
