Prayer Works!
“Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” Psalm 116:2
In the book of James we are told that the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. The prayers of God’s people change the course of lives and the intercession for others opens the door for Jesus to come directly into their situation.
Almost every day of the week we have someone outside of the Cherry Hill Women’s Clinic praying. Now let me explain this to you friends….When we are standing outside the clinic, we are doing more than just showing our presence and hoping for these women to come and talk to us and to change their minds about the decision they are about to make. We are standing there at the foot of Jesus asking him for his Holy Spirit to come and meet us where we are and do something radical. We are taking up this burden, for these women and these unborn children, and then laying it out at the throne of God. With a pleading heart we ask for Jesus to move, and let me tell you friends, we can attest that the prayers of those present outside the clinic are powerful and effective.
It is difficult to count how many times just our presence in prayer has caused women to walk out of the clinic with their unborn child’s heart still beating in their bellies, or how many times our presence in prayer has caused a couple to not even get out of their car and walk into the clinic. We see it time and time again. Several times women have driven by months later and showed us their newborns and said, because we were there…they changed their mind. That my friends in the power of God.
One specific instance we can recall took place a few months ago. A black car with tinted windows pulled up and a man with long hair and tattoos got out. Helper Teri was there that day and she saw him go over and speak to a woman who was anxiously talking on the phone, then stood patiently waiting for her. When she got off the phone he pointed to Teri and then grabbed and hugged the woman and whispered in her ear. He walked her to the car and gave Teri the thumbs up. They beeped several times on the way out as if to be saying thank you.
Another example of God’s intercession is the day a young couple came out of the clinic and Teri waved them over. They came to her and the man pointed at her Rosary Beads saying, “Give me what you’re holding. I need to have one of them. That works! You won’t believe it! One couple after another is being told they can’t have an abortion for one medical reason or another. People are going nuts in there!” After some conversation the same couple decided for LIFE. Teri drove them home and picked up some food for them on the way. This began our relationship with Nikhyla and Taj. Their baby son, Amadi, was born July 13, 2015 and we are still in contact with them, serving them however we can.
It can be frightening and intimidating to stand outside of the clinic and intercede for unborn children… and most people who come out for the first time are apprehensive. But let’s be reminded of Romans 8:26 which says, “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. 27 And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
So I encourage you, no I challenge you, to be a voice for these women and unborn children. Petition the Lord for their lives and take up their burden and lay it at the feet of Jesus. Please consider joining us in prayer. Even if you come out one day a month for 30 minutes…our presence is necessary and our prayer is vital.
“If you are sure it is a right thing for which you are asking, plead now, plead at noon, plead at night, plead on. With cries and tears spread out your case. Order your arguments. Back up your pleas with reasons. Urge the precious blood of Jesus. Bring out the atoning sacrifice. Point to Calvary. Enlist the Priest who stands at the right hand of God. And resolve in your very soul that if souls not be saved, if your family not be blessed, if your own zeal be not revived, yet you will die with the plea on your lips and with the appealing wish on your spirits”. – CHARLES SPURGEON
