First Anniversary of Helpers Academy

This month marks the First Anniversary of Helpers Academy at 138 N. Broadway in Gloucester City! Our location has transitioned from a pregnancy care center to a family care center. We now offer a variety of services for our moms and families!

In addition to helping and educating our pregnant moms and dads who have turned away from abortion, we now have walk-ins, as well as referrals of single parents in distress. All of the money donated to the Helpers is exclusively used on pregnant moms to tangibly help them in their choice for life, however with the Helpers Academy we have been able to give love, encouragement, and support to all types of struggling parents! All pushing towards our two main goals…end abortion, and create a culture of life and family in South Jersey.

One example of the work we have been able to do because of your support was for a young father named Jose. Jose was paralyzed by grief after he lost his newborn son to a brain anomaly. He was struggling to find a better housing situation for himself and his one-year-old son. Mary Anne jumped in to assist him with housing applications. She accompanied him to apartments on his days off work and supported him in the process. Jose and his son are now doing great and have found a place that fits their needs.

Another evening a man named George walked in to the Academy and simply asked, what do the Helpers do? Teri told him, “we help families in need and pregnant women who have turned away from abortion.” His eyes lit up! He explained that he had recently lost his wife to an overdose and that every day is now a challenge as he tries to care for his four-year-old daughter in his grief. Teri became a vital listening ear, connected him to a local church and even sent him off with some food for him and his daughter! He now visits often and has even helped us with maintenance around the office.

Another wonderful woman lost in grief was connected with us at the Academy. Kylie had just lost her little brother in a traumatic situation and the father of her baby to a drug overdose. She was in need of so many things. We were able to help her with clothing for her twin girls and her infant son and a car seat. Teri worked with her on a goal oriented Life Plan. Kylie quit smoking, is working on her GED and is planning to go back to work as a CNA once her state daycare is approved in July. She often visits the Academy and helps to keep the store organized. Kylie wrote that the Helpers, “embraced me with open arms when I felt I needed to be encouraged and supported as a single mom. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the Helpers.”

With your help we are doing great work for South Jersey families! Your donations are vital to our mission, and are so appreciated!

Monetary donations are graciously accepted. Also gently used and new baby items, as well as diapers and wipes, are always needed. Please call Teri at 856-207-6037 to set up an appointment to drop things off and tour our building!
