Equay’s Independence
Friends today we bring you a story that shows you just how word is getting out about The Helpers and the great work that we have been able to do through your support!
It was a few months back when we received a call from a girl who told us that her cousin gave her our number. This particular girl was a beautiful 21-year-old who was living with her grandmother at the time. Her name was Equay. Equay already had twin 4-year-old boys, but they were living elsewhere at the time. When we met Equay she was abortion minded. Her priority was to get her sons back and she believed this baby would make her situation more difficult. Helper Mary Anne came in with words of assurance, telling her we would do all we could to help her move forward in her life and get custody of her boys. This promise of support is exactly what she needed to choose life for her baby.
Mary Anne and Helper Therese both worked with Equay so she could get the medical records, social security numbers, and birth certificates she needed to pursue custody of her two boys. She started a program at Hopeworks ‘N Camden, a wonderful organization we work with often, and Therese took her there daily until we secured her a bus pass. Equay met with Family Options, another partner, to discuss the possibility of placing her baby with an adopting family, but through counseling with them she decided that she could, and would raise the baby herself. She had already made good progress and was sure she could become independent.
Through the weeks, Therese continued to support her, even accompanying her to court with a letter from Helpers indicating that we were working with her and that she had cooperated with everything we advised her to do. This letter was very instrumental in the judge’s decision…and with excitement we write that her sons were returned to her.
As for that little baby still in the womb, Eternity Eve, well she was born on March 20, 2017. She weighed a healthy 8 pounds 1 ounce and was 19 inches tall. We provided her a car seat, pack n’ play and diaper bag. This family is doing so well.
Since the birth, and with our assistance, Equay has applied for low -income housing and TRA(Temporary Rental Assistance). When she secures an apartment we will help her with furniture and household items as well. Equay is a true example of what we do. We lend a hand to those who are reaching out for help. It only takes a little love and support and many of these women we work with make the RIGHT choice…life!
We thank all of you, the Helper Family, for praying and supporting us. Together, with God’s grace, we have truly secured life and family in Equay’s life. She has gone from sadness to happiness! She has not only expressed her gratitude but has also referred a new young mother to us. Helpers…lets keep this up!
