“I Don’t Know What to Do!” – Giana’s Story

It was a normal day outside the clinic a few weeks ago when Helper Teri noticed a red SUV pull into the driveway of the Cherry Hill Women’s Center and drop a young woman off.

The young woman, who was obviously far along in her pregnancy, walked slowly into the clinic. That is when Teri began to fervently pray for her and her unborn child. An hour later our hearts fluttered as she walked out of the clinic crying…but still very pregnant. Teri waved her over and began to talk.

“I don’t know what to do,” she cried. “My mom told me I had to have an abortion or she’d kick me and my two baby boys out of the house. I’ll have nowhere to live!” Teri knew this momentary situation should not determine whether a baby lives or dies so she did what we always do and offered help.

After talking some time, Giana confessed she had seen the ultrasound and that it was a “real baby in there.”

Giana was six months pregnant.

She continued to cry and told Teri she did not want to be here and that she needed us. Teri suggested she go home and call when she got there to discuss the next step.

Not two hours later Giana called to say her mom was calling the police and forcing her out of the house. Teri immediately got into the car and picked her and her two boys up and paid for a motel room in the area where her son attended pre-school. Teri also bought her food and maternity clothes. Each day the Helpers hunted for apartments that Giana and the father of the children, Joe, could afford with his six day a week job.

After three weeks in the motel they moved into an apartment two miles from her mother’s home. Her mother has gotten over her anger and wants to continue to be a part of her daughter and grandsons’ lives. She is excited now that her daughter has moved forward and taken steps to live independently.

God, through his grace, and through our generous donors allowed the Helpers to anchor this young family. In turn Giana and her mother have a renewed relationship and this precious baby will have a chance at life. This is a choice she has made with joy in her heart, not with tears. This is the right choice.

Tonight Giana’s sons sleep in their own home happily awaiting the birth of their new sibling. And all of you who are Helpers, can rest well knowing that together we are “Building a Culture of Life and Family.”
