Christina’s Turnaround

On a warm August day while Helper Teri was at the Cherry Hill Women’s Center praying, a young man pulled up in a taxi cab. He was there to pick up a woman from the clinic and while he was waiting outside Teri waved him over and they began to have a long conversation. He told Teri a little about himself and before he left she gave him some pamphlets and asked him to share them with the women he brings to the clinic in the future. As she was giving him the pamphlets, a young woman walked over and asked “Can you help me too? I did not get the procedure today.”

She was upset, as are most of the women who walk up to The Helpers. Her name was Christina and she began to tell Teri about herself. The 28-year old was three months pregnant and addicted to drugs. She explained that could not see herself as a mother and did not have the resources to take care of a child. As Teri does best, she began to give her hope and explain to her what The Helpers do and that we could get her to a better place!

Christina agreed and we began to work with her. At first we put her up in a motel because she could not go back to her parents’ home because of her drug use. As Christina began to prove that she was really ready to make a change and get off drugs, Mary Anne, another Helper, opened her home to her. With close supervision Christina has taken great strides to straighten out her life.

We introduced Christina to an adoption agency and she met with an adoption counselor several times. The counselor helped her sort things out and to think through whether or not she wanted to and would be able to parent herself. After careful consideration she opted to keep her son who was born by c-section on December 17th.

Baby Cameron weighed 6 lbs. 7 oz. and was 18 ¾ inches long and was simply perfect.

Christina is still living with Mary Anne, but is back to work with a previous boss and is preparing to move out on her own with Cameron. Her mother and sister have entered back into her life and are thrilled to have Cameron in the family. Christina is a loving and devoted mother and is happily planning a future for herself and her son. Something she NEVER thought she could do! What hope she has now for her future!

There were many expenses incurred over these six months for The Helpers to get Christina to this point. We would not have afforded the drug counseling and all of the baby necessities for Cameron without the help of all of you who have donated. Some of you have even volunteered and driven her to appointments. Thank you! With Mary Anne as her mentor and all of you as their benefactors Christina and Cameron have come a long way since that August morning when she asked Teri for help.

A grateful Christina has also become a Helper herself! She has not only referred pregnant mothers to us but because she lives with Mary Anne, she has also been called on to do errands, computer work and phone calling for The Helpers. We are truly grateful that God brought her and Cameron into our lives. She is a very smart, wonderful woman that we believe God will use for great things!
